Yes, while it's not always possible, for the best audio quality, you'll want to keep the length of cable tethering your speakers to your receiver as short as possible. Although your sound quality won't suffer very much unless they're 25 feet or more from your receiver. For any wired speakers, you should use a 14-gauge cable, and potentially use a 12-gauge cable for any speakers extending past 25 feet from the receiver.
Some speakers blend the sound of the instruments too much, but these speakers maintain separation. And the ONLY reason that the slight blur is noticeable at all is that the rest of the sound is so startlingly clear and open. I’ve never heard such a clear and detailed presentation in my listening room. Don’t think that the detail from the speaker is bright and etched either; it isn’t. When you have a big party or just want to crank it up at the beach, a portable Bluetooth speaker is a must.

The grilles do a good job of hiding the drivers and are a great solution for those who don’t like the utilitarian appearance of naked drivers. The grilles do make the speaker look a bit monolithic, but that may be particular to the 3800s given how large they are.
